My Winter Gear

My Winter Gear

Hello everyone,

I wanted to make a quick gear review for dealing subfreezing temperatures during the winter. This is a list of what I used while hiking Franconia Ridge, White Mountains, New Hampshire in late November. I used Kahtoola microspikes for my boots to deal with ice (I didn't slip once!), Smith Goggles (did not fog up), Base-layer was a Paradox Merino Blend wool/synthetic hybrid (don't ever use cotton!), Gerry fleece and puffer jackets for the mid-layer, along with a Carhartt facemask, standard shell jacket and snow pants for my outer-layer. I had Sketchers Outdoor waterproof boots (They were submerged in a freezing stream and I didn't need to change my socks), along with Columbia winter gloves. The photo was taken with a Google Pixel 7 Pro (Can't handle freezing temps well), and I also used a GoPro Hero 11 and Black Diamond 350 lumen headlamp (perfect in the dark with a red light feature). My trekking poles were a generic brand and recommend getting something of higher quality with cork handles. This entire set-up was extremely well insulated from the sub-freezing temperatures and comfortable.
